atpworldtour.com: October 10 2014 Shanghai, China - Two-time defending champion Novak Djokovic recorded his seventh straight win over David Ferrer on Friday for a place in the Shanghai Rolex Masters semi-finals.
The top seed extended his winning streak to 29 matches on Chinese soil with a 6-4, 6-2 win over fifth seed Ferrer, who is attempting to join the Serbian at next month’s Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.Djokovic will continue his quest for an ATP World Tour-best sixth trophy of the year on Saturday at the Qi Zhong Stadium against third seed Roger Federer.
Federer continues his quest for a first ATP Masters 1000 title in Shanghai after defeating Julien Benneteau 7-6(4), 6-0 on Friday for a spot in the Shanghai Rolex Masters semi-finals. In his 52nd Masters 1000 semi-final, Federer will face two-time defending champion Novak Djokovic, who defeated Barclays ATP World Tour Finals hopeful David Ferrer earlier on Friday to win his 29th straight match on Chinese soil.
Federer, who will overtake Rafael Nadal as World No. 2 in the Emirates ATP Rankings on Monday, hit 11 aces and 34 winners in the 69-minute match.
Gilles Simon advanced to his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 semi-final in almost two years. Simon knocked out sixth seed Tomas Berdych 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-0 in just under two-and-a-half hours. He will next meet Feliciano Lopez who recorded his 200th hard-court match win mid-afternoon with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Mikhail Youzhny in two hours and four minutes.
Lopez led 4-1 in the decider and first served for the match at 5-3. He converted his first match point opportunity on Youzhny's serve at 4-5, 30/40. Lopez, who beat Rafael Nadal in the second round, is through to his third Shanghai semi-final. He lost in the last four in 2009 (l. to Nadal) and 2011 (l. to Ferrer).
