iptlworld.com: December 8 2014 New Delhi – New Delhi, 8 December 2014: In a historical day for Indian tennis, the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium witnessed the world’s most iconic tennis players coming together to battle it out in the Coca-Cola Indian Premier Tennis League presented by Qatar Airways in New Delhi today.

 

For the first time on Indian soil, Roger Federer and Pete Sampras, representing the Micromax Indian Aces, and Novak Djokovic playing for the Musafir.com UAE Royals competed with each other in a high-power display of tennis in the professional team tennis competition. The event witnessed a packed house with the presence of India’s biggest stars Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Riteish Deshmukh and Sunil Gavaskar.

 

Marking the close of the Delhi leg of Coca-Cola IPTL presented by Qatar Airways, founder Mahesh Bhupathi said that the response from Indian fans was tremendous and exceeded all expectations. He said the superb match between superstars Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic was definitely the highlight of the IPTL till now and the excitement in the stadium was electrifying. In a fantastic display of team effort, the Musafir.com UAE Royals played stupendously to defeat the formidable Micromax Indian Aces 29 - 22.

 

The Women’s Singles saw talented Kristina Mladenovic and Ana Ivanovic showing pure class in a set that witnessed many moments of brilliance. Both played equally well to reach even scores and Mladenovic won a gripping 5 minute shoot out to claim the set 6 – 5. In the Past Champions set, a confident Goran Ivanisevic thrived on his IPTL experience while Sampras gave the crowds a small taste of his greatness. Fabrice Santoro played inspired tennis after replacing Sampras, trying his best for the Aces but went down 3 – 6 valiantly.

 

Roger Federer (replaced Rohan Bopanna) and Sania Mirza found it difficult to match up to an outstanding Mladenovic and Nenad Zimonjic. The Aces went down 2 – 6. Federer returned to the court with Gael Monfils for an enthralling Men’s Doubles set against Novak Djokovic (replaced Cilic) and Zimonjic. The set reached 5 – 5, setting in motion a shoot-out that went down to the wire

but was won by the Aces.

 

In an encounter the nation was waiting to watch, tennis’ ultimate showdown saw Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer meet in the Men’s Singles set and create magic on the court. With majestic shot making and geometric precision, the two giants played a neck and neck set, which went into another shoot out won magnificently by the Royals in overtime. Tsonga, Philippousis Lead Manila Mavericks Victory Over DBS Slammers 23 - 17

iptlworld.com: December 8  2014 New Delhi – The Coca-Cola International Premier Tennis League Presented by Qatar Airways witnessed the DBS Singapore Slammers taking on the Manila Mavericks in the first match of Day 3 in New Delhi. Playing confidently, the Mavericks registered yet another 23 – 17 win over the struggling Slammers.

 

World No. 12 Jo-Wilfred Tsonga gave the Manila Mavericks a perfect start, playing a clean set of calm and collected tennis against World No. 9 Tomas Berdych and Nick Kyrgios (replaced Berdych in last game) who were unable to match the Frenchman’s neat game. With an impressive display of teamwork and exciting rallies, Kyrgios was joined by Daniela Hantuchova to give the Slammers its first win in the match against Daniel Nestor and Kirsten Flipkens.

 

Hantuchova and Flipkens stayed back to meet each other in an exciting Women’s Singles set where the former displayed some fine moves and played a confidence-boosting match for her team. A fighting Hantuchova used every available opportunity to score, taking her team’s total to 14 points and win 6 – 2 for the Slammers.

 

Gifted Daniel Nestor powered Tsonga in the Men’s Doubles to bring the Mavericks back into the contest and win the fourth set 6 – 0 against the Slammers’ all Australian pair of Nick Kyrgios and Lleyton Hewitt. In the past-champions singles, Patrick Rafter met an in-form Mark Philippoussis, who continued his phenomenal unbeaten run in the League. He beat Rafter 6 – 3 to wrap up the match in style.

World No.1 Djokovic Debuts for UAE Royals, Fall to Manila Mavericks 27 - 24

iptlworld.com: December 7 2014 New Delhi – Sunday evening provided New Delhi’s citizens and top tennis players the perfect atmosphere to come out and enjoy yet another exhilarating game of tennis at the Coca-Cola International Premier Tennis League Presented by Qatar Airways. In the second match of the day, the Musafir.com UAE Royals, led by World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, clashed with the formidable Manila Mavericks in a critical encounter, which ended in a 27-24 win for the Mavericks.

 

Unbeaten Mark Philippoussis met UAE Royal Goran Ivanisevic in a spirited first set. Continuing his winning streak for the Mavericks, Philippoussis built a comfortable lead and won the set 6 – 3. In the Men’s Singles, World No. 9 Marin Cilic played against talented Frenchman Jo-Wilfred Tsonga. Both players did well for their teams and the set reached an exciting 5 minute shoot-out, which Cilic won in the face of adversity to claim the set 6 – 5 and brought the Royals back into the contest.

 

In a replacement that thrilled fans, IPTL debutant Djokovic replaced Cilic to partner Nenad Zimonjic in the Men’s Doubles against Tsonga and Daniel Nestor. Making the best of their experience, the Mavericks swiftly got into a lead, slowly but compellingly broken by the Royals to level scores. An inspiring shoot out was wrapped up in style by Tsonga and Nestor.

 

Flipkens joined Nestor to tighten the Mavericks’ overall lead. Playing against Zimonjic and Mladenovic, the duo put up an impressive display of teamwork and exciting rallies to win 6 – 2. In the Women’s Singles, World No. 8 Caroline Wozniacki met Flipkens in a closely contested set that witnessed several exciting rallies and fine moves. Playing a cool yet powerful game, Wozniacki gradually brought the Royals back into the match but went down to a smart and calculated Flipkens during overtime.

Micromax Indian Aces Edge Manila Mavericks in Thrilling Shootout 26-25

iptlworld.com: December 6 2014 New Delhi - An electrifying atmosphere and a packed house cheering for the two participating teams greeted players in the second match of the inaugural Coca-Cola IPTL presented by Qatar Airways in New Delhi. The Micromax Indian Aces made the best of the incredible atmosphere and plenty of support, bouncing back after consecutive defeats in their last two encounters to register a thrilling victory in their opening match.

 

In the Mixed Doubles match, both teams got off to strong starts, playing equally well. Micromax Indian Aces players Sania Mirza & Rohan Bopanna and opponents Kirsten Flipkens & Daniel Nestor gave the stadium its first taste of a 5 - 5 tie, which the latter won in a thrilling 5 minute shoot out to claim the set 6 – 5. Past Champions Cedric Poiline and Mark Phillippoussis took on each other in an encounter that tested the strength and ability of both former greats. In the end, Phillippoussis prevailed, continuing his fantastic unbeaten run with a confident 6 – 4 victory.

 

Bopanna and Monfils battled it out against talented Treat Huey and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in a highly entertaining set of tennis, bringing to fore the power of joint effort. The match witnessed its second high power shoot out, which the Aces sealed in style. The fight of the Frenchmen was a closely contested set between Monfils and Tsonga, who provided the crowds with edge of the seat action. Tsonga won the exhilarating contest 6 – 4.

 

In the women’s singles match, powered by Ana Ivanovic’s brilliance against Kirsten Flipkens, the home team came right back into the match. The scores were tied at 25 – 25, prompting a Super Shootout between the leading men’s players, Monfils and Tsonga, which went down to the wire and was won by Monfils in a nail biting contest.

iptlworld.com: December 6 2014 New Delhi - The Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium proudly hosted an exciting opening game of the New Delhi leg of the Coca-Cola International Premier Tennis League Presented by Qatar Airways today, where the Musafir.com UAE Royals met the DBS Singapore Slammers in a thrilling display of topnotch tennis that witnessed the Royals winning convincingly.

 

During their last encounter in the closing game of the Singapore leg, the Slammers and Royals went head to head in what was the tightest match thus far with the Slammers triumphant at 27-25. This time around, the Royals put on a display of world-class tennis and won 29 –16.

 

In the Men’s singles, World No. 9 Marin Cilic gave his team a dream start and defended a brave comeback by Lleyton Hewitt to comfortably take the opening set 6 – 3 and put the Musafir.com UAE Royals in the lead. Continuing to move ahead smoothly and displaying loads of confidence, Nenad Zimonjic powered Cilic in the Men’s Doubles to win a high energy second set 6 – 2 against the Slammers’ all Australian pair of Nick Kyrgios and Hewitt.

 

In the past-champions singles, big Croat Goran Ivanisevic was on fire against Patrick Rafter, displaying some top-quality tennis and winning the first five games in a row. Rafter finally got a break but that was not enough to match Ivanisevic’s smart moves and gorgeous finishes. With an impressive display of teamwork and exciting rallies, Zimonjic was joined by Kristina Mladenovic to give the Royals yet another 6 - 4 win. Wowing fans, a highly athletic Kyrgios and partner Daniela Hantuchova did their best to rack up points but could not prevail.

 

In the Women’s Singles, Hantuchova displayed some fine moves and played a confidence-boosting match against World No. 8 Caroline Wozniacki. A fighting Hantuchova used every available opportunity to score, taking her team’s total to 16 points but the match belonged to the Royals who

eventually won 29 – 16.
