Day 1-2: Aegon International at Eastbourne
Giorgi Ousts Azarenka, Keys Top Jankovic; American Young Beats Ward in Opener
lta.org.uk June 17 2014 Eastbourne, England - Following on from Monday's upset, which saw no. 1 seed Agnieszka Radwanksa knocked out, Tuesday continued to deliver surprises, the fourth seed and world no. 8 Victoria Azarenka falling to Camila Giorgi 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Despite the result, it was a positive return to action for Azarenka, having not played since Indian Wells earlier this year. Over on court one, third seed Jelena Jankovic lost to American Madison Keys 6-3, 6-3, with Keys playing 2013 champion Elena Vesnina in the next round.
British no. 3 James Ward fell to an improving Donald Young in their first round matchup as he lost out to the American 6-3, 6-2, Young's consistent first serve proving too much for Ward.
Wednesday's Order of Play Wednesday sees number one seed Richard Gasquet in action against Australian Bernard Tomic, Sloane Stephens take on Dane Caroline Wozniacki, and todays winner Heather Watson take on Italian Flavia Pennetta. Defending champion Feliciano Lopez returns to center court to defend his title against German qualifier Tobias Kamke.
