Marca.com November 29, 2013 Mallorca, Spain - Two international “Masters” of their respective sports have combined their efforts to raise funds for a Spanish medical institute for cure of rare diseases and to promote sports for people with intellectual disabilities.

 

World No.1 ATP tennis player Rafael Nadal have teamed up with two-time Masters golf champion Jose Maria Olazabal to create the Olazabal & Nadal Invitational Pro-Am, a charity event that benefits disadvantaged youth.

The OLAZABAL & NADAL INVITATIONAL will be held at the Pula Golf Mallorca field on November 30 and December 1 participated by a group of golfers which includes Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, Alvaro Quiros, Eduardo de la Riva, Emanuelle Cannonica, Lorenzo Gagli, Jose Manuel Lara Jesus Legarrea, Juan Quriós and Pepin Rivero. The festivities will be led by Nadal and the winner of two Masters in Augusta and the Ryder Cup 2012 José María Olazábal.

 

In 2012, Olazabal served as captain and led Europe's Ryder Cup team to narrowly edged Team USA, whose lead seemed insurmountable at the start of the final day's play, when the Europeans trailed 10–6. The comeback to win 14½–13½ was, Olazábal said, inspired by his late friend Seve Ballesteros, to whom he dedicated the win. Olazábal, who was born in Hondarribia, a town in the Basque autonomous region of Spain, won the U.S. Masters tournament in Augusta in 1994 and 1999.

The foundations of both Sport Mundi , www.sport-mundi.org, José María Olazábal, and Foundation RafaNada l, www.fundacionrafanadal.org, in the case of tennis, will be the depository of the funds raised by this tournament and subscribers by participants.

 

In the first case, the proceeds will go to the Spanish Federation for Rare Diseases, in order to promote research of ailments to which there is little information, given its low incidence rate in the population.

 

The tournament is made ​​possible by the partner companies, Ernst & Young, Bemer Group, Nike, Standard Life Investments, Cap Vermell, Sentido Pula Suites Hotel, Vueling, Velaa Maldives, Viña Mayor and Carrasco GUIJUELO.
