University of Virginia Becomes a Dominant Force in Intercollegiate Competition

February 20, 2013 ITS Staff - The nation's top-ranked Universtiy of Virginia Cavaliers men's tennis team won its fifth ITA National Team Indoor Championship in six years with a 4-2 victory over second-ranked USC in Monday's final at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. The Cavaliers (6-0) won the doubles point and used straight set victories at the top three singles positions to deny the Trojans their second straight title. 

 

Virginia won an unprecedented four consecutive ITA National Team Indoor Championships from 2008 to 2011, including winning the title in Seattle in 2008 and 2011. The Cavaliers' five overall NTI championships ranks third in ITA history, behind Stanford (12) and UCLA (7). Since 2004, the University of Virginia Cavaliers Men's Tennis Teams have compiled an impressive record becoming one the most dominant forces in the United States Inter-Collegiate tennis competition. Cavaliers' Duo Treat Huey and Dominic Inglot in ATP Tour

Huey, world No.36, and Inglot, No.40, won their first team title at the Citi Open in Washington D.C. in August 2012 beating Kevin Anderson and Sam Querrey. They were finalists at the US Men's Clay Court Championship in Houston bowing out to James Blake and Sam Querrey. Playing for the Philippine Davis Cup team Treat Conrad Huey and Dominic Inglot of Great Britain reached their third ATP World Tour final of 2012 in Basel as they upset fourth seeds Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski 7-6(5) 7-5 in the semi-finals eventually losing to Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic.
