Baylor Athletics: USC Rallies Past Baylor Despite Doubles Loss

No.1 UCLA Dismisses No.16 Vandebilt

The No.1 seed UCLA Bruins men's tennis team reached the quarter-finals by dismissing No. 16 Vanderbilt, 4-0 at the University of Illinois' Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex at the Atkins Tennis Center. With the win, UCLA (27-1) advances to Saturday's quarterfinals where they will face No. 9 Duke, which pulled off the slight upset over No. 8 Kentucky, 4-2 on Thursday.

Georgia Bulldogs Upend Oklahoma

The University of Georgia men’s tennis team posted a 4-1 win over 14th-seeded Oklahoma on Thursday in the round of 16 to move on to the quarterfinals of the 2013 NCAA Championships at the University of Illinois’ Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex. The No.3 seed Bulldogs will square off against No. 11 Pepperdine on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET. Georgia (25-4) is into the quarterfinals for the 10th straight year and has now won 16 matches in a row and 20 of the last 21.

No.2 Virginia Rolls Over California 4-0

The Virginia men's tennis team reached the NCAA quarterfinals for the ninth consecutive season with a 4-0 victory over University of California, Berkeley. It marked the second consecutive year the Cavaliers (27-0) downed the Bears (16-10) in the round of 16. Virginia will meet Tennessee in the quarterfinals on Saturday. The two teams have met three times over the past five years at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship, but have never before played in the NCAA Tournament.

USC Enters Quarter-finals for 7th Straight Time

For the seventh straight year, defending champions No.4 seed University of Southern California Trojans reached the quarter-finals with 4-1 victory over the Baylor Bears USC rolled up four straight singles wins -- all tight matches to secure the win. Singles wins from Emilio Gomez, Eric Johnson and Roberto Quiroz were won by USC and the clincher was delivered by Yannick Hanfmann in a three-set comeback to secure the victory. In pursuit of a fifth consecutive NCAA title, the Trojans improve to 26-4.

No.12 Pepperdine Rallies Past Memphis

After dropping the doubles point, No.12 Pepperdine men’s tennis team rallied back in singles to defeat No.32 Memphis 4-2 in NCAA Tournament round of 16 contest held at the University of Illinois. The Waves will face No.2 Georgia in the quarterfinals for the second-straight season. Memphis (16-8) took early control of the dual after a solid performance in doubles. Joe Salisbury and David O’Hare, ranked #64 in the ITA doubles poll, cruised to an 8-2 win on court one while the Tigers’ No. 3 team of David O'Leary and Cedric De Zutter clinched the point with an 8-5 triumph. The Waves still entered singles with confidence. Although Pepperdine has lost the doubles point 11 times this season prior to today, the team has still walked away with the overall victory on eight occasions.

No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes Defeat No. 12 Texas A&M, 4-0:

The No. 5 Ohio State men’s tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA championships for the ninth time in program history following a 4-0 win against No. 12 Texas A&M in the round of 16 Thursday evening at the Khan Tennis Complex in Urbana, Ill. The Buckeyes will face four-time defending champion University of Southern California on Saturday who defeated No. 13 Baylor a 4-1 Thursday. The match between Ohio State and USC will serve as the third meeting between the two teams in the last five NCAA championships. The Trojans have a 2-0 advantage, winning, 4-1, in the final in 2009 and posting a 4-0 victory in the quarterfinals the following season in 2010.
