Li Na Reaches Quarter-finals; Huey, Inglot Stopped by Bryans in Round of 16s
July 01 2013 ITS Staff: Wimbledon, England – Asia’s No.1 female tennis player and 2011 French Open champion Li Na won the battle of 30-years old and above with a smashing victory over Roberta Vinci of Italy 6-2, 6-0 in a fourth round match Monday.
Li now has reached has reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon for the third time. The 31-year old No.6 seed Li was broken once in the first set but dominated the rest of the way breaking the 30-year old Italian No.11 seed six times and hitting 26 winners in the 57 minute match. In the quarter-finals, Li will face Poland’s No.4 seed and last year’s finalist Agnieszka Radwanska who defeated Tsvetana Pironkova 4-6 6-3 6-3.
In Gentlemen's Doubles, Filipino Davis Cupper Treat Huey and British partner Dominic Inglot, the 16th seeds, lost in three tight sets 7-5, 6-3, 7-6(3) to top seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan who advanced to their ninth consecutive quarter-final at Wimbledon on Monday.
The Filipino-British tandem could not break the Americans despite serving well enough during their service games hitting 16 aces to eight from the Bryans. The American twins are bidding to become the first team in the Open Era to hold all four major trophies simultaneously and are also seeking a ‘Golden Bryans Slam’, following their triumph at the London 2012 Olympics.
