Paes, Nestor Defeats Huey, Inglot in Winston-Salem Open Doubles Final
40 year old pair each win 52nd (Paes) and 81st (Nestor) ATP title
atpworldtour.com: August 23, 2013 Winston-Salem - Top seeds Daniel Nestor of Canada and India’s Leander Paes won their first ATP World Tour team title on Saturday as they defeated Treat Huey of the Philippines and Great Britain’s Dominic Inglot 7-6(10) 7-5 in the Winston-Salem Open final.
Both aged 40, Nestor and Paes were playing together for just the second time in their careers. Their debut came 19 years ago at The Queen’s Club, where they lost in the first round. They are two of the most successful doubles players of all time, with Nestor amassing 81 tour-level titles and Paes 52.
Nestor and Paes edged their unseeded opponents in one hour and 33 minutes, having been thwarted on 10 of their 11 break point chances. They lost just one set all week. Their quarter-final win over Paul Hanley and John Peers saw Nestor became the first doubles player to reach the 900 match wins milestone (902-358 match record).
Huey and Inglot dropped to a 1-4 finals record together. Their lone title came at last year’s Citi Open in Washington (d. Anderson/Querrey). Huey, Inglot Reaches 4th ATP World Tour Doubles Final, Meets Nestor, Paes for Title
August 23 2013 ITS Staff: Winston-Salem - Former University of Virginia stars Treat Huey and Dominic Inglot teamed up to beat Andre Begemann and Martin Emmrich in the semi-finals of the ATP Wins-Salem Open on Friday to advance to the finals.
Huey, who plays Davis Cup for the Philippines, and Britain’s Inglot defeated the German pair for the second time in four meeting this season. Huey and Inglot hit eight aces to win 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 in one hour and 11 minutes for a place in their fourth ATP World Tour team final where they are 1-2.
They face top seeds Daniel Nestor and Leander Paes in the doubles final on Saturday. The Canadian-Indian duo defeated American Eric Butorac and 2012 Wimbledon Doubles champion Frederik Nielsen of Denmark 6-3 6-3. More on Winston-Salem Open
Lu Yen Hsun Enters Quarter-finals; Huey, Inglot Storm to Doubles Semis
August 21, 2013 ITS Staff: Winston-Salem - Lu Yen-Hsun of Taiwan stormed through the men’s singles quarter-finals of the ATP Winston-Salem Open on Wednesday after cruising past former US NCAA champion Steve Johnson 6-3 6-2.
Lu, who has not lost a set entering the last eight, knocked off No.16 seed Pablo Andujar Spain 6-4 6-3 in the second round and Belgium’s Romain Bogaerts 6-1 6-1 in the first round. The 2010 Wimbledon quarter-finalist Lu will take on Alexander Dolgopolov who ousted Juan Monaco 4-6 6-1 6-4.
In Men’s Doubles, Philippine Davis Cupper and World Ranked Doubles No.34 Treat Huey and British teammate Dominic Inglot reached the doubles semi-finals late Wednesday after a solid 6-1 7-6(5) victory over Frantisek Cermak of the Czech Republic and Slovakian Filip Polasek in a quarter-final action.
Former teammates at the University of Virginia, Huey and Inglot broke the Germans twice in the first set then held on until second set tiebreaker before clinching the match with pair of service return winners. Serving brilliantly, Huey and Inglot did not face a single breakpoint on their service games through out the 59-minute match.
In the semis, the Filipino-British duo will face the German pair of Andre Begemann and Martin Emmrich who trounced Mexico’s Santiago Gonzales and American Scott Lipsky 6-4 6-4.
