Britain's first victory in the top tier of the competition since 1986.  On Saturday, Bob and Mike Bryan, taking to the court with the USA trailing 0-2, delivered a point of their team with a 62 63 36 61 win over the untested British Davis Cup duo of Colin Fleming and Dominic Inglot. James Ward stunned Sam Querrey to win 16 76(3) 36 64 61 on Friday. After Andy Murray had put the visitors ahead, Ward produced a fantastic fightback to give Team GB an unlikely lead. daviscup.com February 2 2014 Ostrava, Czech Republic - Tomas Berdych completed a hat-trick of wins this weekend by beating Netherlands’ Thiemo de Bakker 61 64 63 to see two-time defending champion Czech Republic safely into the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group to set up a last-eight clash with Japan, 4-1 conquerors of Canada. On Saturday, Berdych and Radek Stepanek extended their impressive winning partnership that put the Czech Republic in a commanding position beating Jean-Julien Rojer and Robin Haase in four, tough sets. After singles victories for Haase and Berdych on Friday, the Czechs moved into the lead for the first time in this tie thanks to their 75 16 76(2) 76(4) doubles success in three hours and 57 minutes. On day one, Berdych put the hosts on level terms defeating Igor Sijsling in the second rubber of the 63 63 60. Earlier Robin Haase had gotten the Netherlands off to a dream start against the two-time defending champions as he fought back to down Stepanek 36 64 67(4) 62 61. Tie Details

daviscup.com February 2 2014 Novi Sad, Serbia - Switzerland carved out an unassailable 3-0 lead over Serbia in their Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group first-round tie in Novi Sad after Marco Chiudinelli and Michael Lammer beat Nenad Zimonjic and Filip Krajinovic 76(3) 36 76(2) 62 in Saturday’s doubles. The Swiss will move on to play either Belgium or Kazakhstan in the last eight while 2010 winners and last season’s runners-up Serbia have dropped into the World Group playoffs. On Friday, former world No. 1 Roger Federer and 2014 Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka gave Switzerland a highly anticipated 2-0 lead. Federer put the Swiss in the driving seat with a 64 75 62 win over Ilija Bozoljac after fighting back from a 5-2 deficit in the second set, while Wawrinka overpowered Dusan Lajovic 64 46 61 76(7) in Friday’s second singles rubber. It was the first ever World Group victory for Japan who took a 2-1 lead over Canada after a four-set victory 63 76(3) 46 64 in doubles on Saturday in their Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group first-round match. Nishikori and Yasutaka Uchiyama relied on their speed and agility to defeat the taller Frank Dancevic and Daniel Nestor indoors on the hardcourt at Ariake Colosseum. On Friday, Nishikori staked the host nation to a 1-0 lead with a straight sets victory over Canada’s No. 2 Peter Polansky 64 64 64 in the opening singles match, before Frank Dancevic levelled the tie with a 64 76(2) 61 win over Japan’s No. 2 Go Soeda. World Tour Finals winners Fernando Verdasco and David Marrero fought desperately to keep five-times champions Spain alive after the loss of both Friday’s singles matches but they were eventually subdued as the German duo won a thriller 76 67 76 63 in the noisy Fraport Arena. On Friday's singles rubber, Florian Mayer triumphed 76(6) 76(4) 16 57 63 in three hours and 51 minutes to bring his career head-to-head with Lopez to 3-3 and hand Germany a 2-0 advantage. daviscup.com February 2 2014La Roche Sur Yon, France - Julienne Benneteau and Gael Monfils completed a French rout of Australia 5-0 after winning Sunday’s singles rubbers beating Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-4 6-1 and Nick Kyrgios 7-6(5) 6-4 respectively. On Saturday, celebrated a 3-0 victory over Australia with Richard Gasquet and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga giving the French an unassailable lead by winning the doubles 57 76(4) 62 75 over Australian team of Lleyton Hewitt and Chris Guccione. Their win came just minutes after Germany had sealed victory over Spain, which means France will host Germany in April’s quarterfinals. In the singles rubber on Friday, World No.9 Richard Gasquet and World No.10 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won in straight sets Friday to give France a comfortable 2-0 lead.
